Corbières and Minervois are seperated by the Canal du Midi where we stay one night. We start in the Minervois at Chateau Violet and finish in the old Citadelle of Carcassonne. Minervois and Corbières are just waking up to the modern world. They have been fast asleep for a long time. A wild unique countryside with exceptional views, overlooking the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. They are now producing outstanding wines. Minerve and Carcassonne are both entangled in the history of the Cathares. You will discover a lot more about the history while visiting some abbeys and churches of the area. Minerve, due to its geographical situation, is one of the most beautiful villages in France, Carcassonne is a World Heritage Centre.

If you prefer to walk by yourself, or if you decide at the last minute that you want to go walking in Burgundy, if you want to make a break on your way down to the Mediterranean for a day or two, you are very welcome to stay in Mark and Laurence's old farmhouse where they live, in the Maconnais, South of Burgundy.
Berze-la-Ville is the address, and this pretty, flower filled village is only a 20 minute drive drom the Paris-Lyon motorway at Macon. The house itself is set high in a secluded valley above the village, and has spectacular views down to the limestone hills of the Beaujolais. A tiny road leads up to it, but only fifteen minutes away is Macon-Loche TGV station where the fast trains sweep down from Paris in 1hr and 40 minutes. The whole journey by Eurostar train, including the change in Paris, can be done in about 5 hours.
They have three bedrooms with their own bathrooms for bed and breakfast, and there are two restaurants in the village, plus others nearby.
There is a great variety of walks, and you can have all the maps and instructions needed.
Price: £60 double and £40 single
